SPRING VALLEY LAKE — Los Angeles native Zack Fleishman won the singles title at the 17th Annual DCB/CVC Kory Rudow Memorial Open Tennis Championships.

Fleishman beat Sam Fletcher of Australia 6-4, 6-4 in Monday’s final at Spring Valley Lake Country Club.

The winner received $2,200 out of the $10,000 purse, and Fletcher took home $1,100.

Fleishman defeated Alex Borvanov 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinals. Nathan Overholser of Florida lost a tight three-set match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to Fletcher in the other semifinal.

Fletcher teamed up with Adam Davidson to beat Overholser and Fleishman 9-8 (5) in the doubles final.

In the Women’s “A” singles final, former Granite Hills and Victor Valley College player Anna Olin (now at Chicago State University) defeated Katrina Mitchell 6-1, 6-0.

The tournament featured 26 professionals and a total of 145 entries. Tournament director Hassan Humayun said the prize money was the most ever awarded at a High Desert tennis tournament. Matches were played at Spring Valley Lake and at Victor Valley College.

Humayun said proceeds from the tournament will go to the Kory Rudow and Citizens Volunteer Corps scholarship funds.

The tournament was re-named for Rudow, a former standout tennis player at Sultana High and Victor Valley College. He was killed in a car accident last year at age 21, just days before the DCB Tennis Classic. His family offers scholarships in his name to college-bound high school athletes.

Citizens Volunteer Corps is a Victorville-based nonprofit organization that offers scholarships to Victor Valley students attending Cal State San Bernardino.
